Darrin Smith founded his own company after many years of working in all phases of the homebuilding trades. A builder must understand every aspect of a project to assure that every subcontractor is performing his assignment with the highest degree of efficiency and quality. After 10 generations of building homes, the Smith family knows what lasts and what doesn’t. Darrin has combined life experience and inherited knowledge with a B.S. in Management (& Aviation) to serve his clients with a unique mix of leadership skills that make every house a home our clients can be proud to own.

Today’s building expectations should be higher than those of the past. Darrin N Smith, Builder Inc. makes it a point to build homes that are superior. Ours homes are built by Excel Homes of Pennsylvania to the exact specifications of Mr. Smith. We learned that in Hurricane Katrina sheathing was ripped off stud walls, leaving the nails behind.

Excel homes uses heavy gauge staples to fasten their sheathing. These staples exert more force across a wider surface area than a regular nail. In addition, every sheet is glued to the studs, making a far stronger structure. On the interior the sheet rock is glued as well as being mechanically fastened. The studs themselves are larger than average. All exterior walls are 2x6 studs placed every sixteen inches to create a wall that is stronger and far more energy efficient than a traditional 2x4 wall. Every exterior wall is glued to the floor beneath it to eliminate the possibility of air leaks or drafts.

Our heating and cooling systems are a minimum of thirteen SEER rated making them as much a 25% cheaper to operate than the old ten SEER standard. The foundation crawl space is a sealed space with concrete floor and foundation insulation. It stays at the same temperature as the house to eliminate the temperature difference that helps mold grow. Traditional foundation vents only work properly in a low humidity environment. The Northern Neck is a high humidity environment. Added benefits of having a modular home are the lack of moisture, dirt, and mold spores, which are allowed to coat the framing of your walls during traditional framing methods. Our walls are built in a clean, enclosed factory where the lumber is not out in the elements while being used. Just look at the pollen and spores on your car. That same mixture sticks to your house framing during traditional construction methods. We work hard to create a home for you that exceed standards. And we do it in a timely fashion; from contract to delivery is only ten weeks. We can build plans you already have or you can pick one from our catalogs. So call us today at 804-453-4338 or 804-436-4492 and enjoy your new home.
